The supply of goods is one of the foundations of our quality of life and a requirement for economic growth. In countries with strong economies like Germany, this means that freight volumes are constantly growing.
Metropolises are particularly badly affected. However, in small towns characterised by tourism, freight traffic also becomes a problem when tourists feel disturbed by it and stay away. As a result of negative environmental impacts, there is also a risk that the town will be stripped of its spa or health resort status. Town councils in particular are called upon to counteract this.
The climate targets and the targets for reducing greenhouse gas and particulate matter emissions must be achieved while ensuring an unrestricted flow of traffic. According to the EU Commission, inner-city traffic should be CO2-neutral throughout Europe by 2050.
Project duration: 01 June 2016 - 31 May 2019.
Within the framework of the EU project Low Carbon Logistics, the project partners University of Greifswald and Kompetenzzentrum Ländliche Mobilität - Forschungs-GmbH Wismar - KOMOB (“Competence Centre for Rural Mobility”) offered consultancy services on low-CO2 logistics solutions for northern German municipalities and businesses.
