Law Meets Economics

Recht trifft Wirtschaft

Anniversary publication to commemorate the Lecture Series “Recht trifft Wirtschaft” held on the occasion of the Faculty’s re-establishment

When the University of Greifswald (then “Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald”) reopened after the Second World War in February 1946, Soviet occupation authorities shut down the Faculty of Law and Economics.

From that point on, the University of Greifswald was no longer a universitas litterarum, it had become an ‘amputee’, as Rector Hans-Jürgen Zobel put it in his welcoming speech at the Opening Ceremony for students of degree courses in Law, Business Administration and Economics on 25 February 1991. Following this Opening Ceremony and the formal re-establishment of the Faculty on 26 October 1992, our university returned to its full range of disciplines.

The Faculty took the 25th anniversary of its re-establishment as an opportunity to present current research work. This was done by means of a lecture series titled “Recht trifft Wirtschaft” (Law Meets Economics) in the 2017 summer semester. The focus was primarily on work located at the interface between law and economics and/or cross-disciplinary work in these fields. During the six events, twelve professors – eight lawyers and four economists – introduced the audience to their research. This volume contains the revised and transcribed versions of the lectures.
